Paxton R. Guymon’s law practice spans many areas of real estate law, including a wide variety of land use and zoning matters, subdivisions, land acquisitions and development, finance, owners’ associations, and real estate transactions. Mr. Guymon’s practice includes both transactional work and litigation. He has successfully tried cases (bench trial and jury trials) in state and federal courts. Stephen J. Mayfield is a Partner at York Howell & Guymon, advising businesses and individuals on various tax issues in the context of corporate transactions, emerging entities, and estate plans. Christopher A. Jones’ practice covers nearly all areas of corporate, real estate and natural resources law. He has extensive experience advising clients on commercial transactions; business planning, formation and reorganization; asset protection; mergers and acquisitions; and corporate governance. Mr. Jones’ real estate experience is wide ranging and covers everything from financing and acquisition to land use, entitlements and leasing. He has assisted a variety of clients with the formation of condominium and PUD communities; development of residential, commercial, industrial and hotel projects; remediation and development of contaminated properties; utilization of tax increment financing and other economic development incentives; and the preparation of conservation easements and other real estate covenants. Mr. Jones’ real estate practice extends further into the specialized area of natural resources law, where he has experience in several disciplines including oil, gas and mining, public lands, water rights and water quality, environmental regulation and remediation.

Erin Stone’s practice covers nearly all areas of corporate and real estate law, as well as commercial litigation and appeals. For over 20 years, Michael has represented injury victims and their families in catastrophic injury cases involving wrongful death, traumatic brain injury, medical malpractice, and serious personal injury. With his exceptional skill in communication, negotiation, arbitration, and going to trial, Michael has obtained numerous six- and seven-figure recoveries for his clients.

Michael also has a broad range of experience in other areas of the law, such as probate, trust and estate litigation, real estate litigation, and estate planning. Landon has broad experience in civil litigation with an emphasis in real property disputes. He served as in-house counsel for a landowner handling litigation related to restrictive covenants and efforts to develop property; served as seconded counsel for a mortgage loan servicer managing litigation related to consumer protection laws in various states; and has advised clients regarding retail landlord disputes, land lease evictions, prescriptive easements, and land devaluation associated with a toxic tort.

Landon has also advised clients on regulatory issues before the Utah Public Service Commission including general rate cases and net metering credits, disputes over the operation of fleet devices, industrial trade secret protection, insurance benefits and ERISA, power plant disputes related to equipment upgrades and power purchase agreements, the suitability of advice given in the financial services industry, patent and trademark disputes, employment disputes, and general contract disputes.

Landon is currently serving his second year as President of the Sugar House Park Authority Board of Trustees where he has been a board member since 2014.

Trevor works with entrepreneurs that have global business interests, advising them on matters relating to effective tax planning. He counsels clients on structuring their wealth to minimize foreign, income, and transfer taxes. He is experienced in handling international aspects of tax and estate planning, with particular experience in planning for clients who are exposed to multiple tax jurisdictions. He emphasizes sound tax strategy and has represented clients in IRS audits and administrative appeals. He has worked with private companies with limited in-house legal resources to act as outside general counsel and has extensive experience advising private multinational companies on the full range of international tax issues and cross-border corporate matters.

Prior to joining York Howell & Guymon, Trevor was an international tax attorney at Deloitte & Touche. He assisted both public and private companies with global tax planning and compliance. He worked with clients in a wide variety of industries, including Saas, e-commerce, cloud-based computing, computer software, manufacturing and B2C. Prior to working at Deloitte & Touche, He was an attorney at a Chicago law firm, where he worked with private clients.

Mary has worked with former IRS Commissioners to advise the AICPA and the U.S. Treasury Department on new laws that changed partnership audit practice and partnership tax law. Additionally, Mary has also helped businesses grow by finding over $10 million dollars in tax credits and incentives for her clients through the research and development tax credit and other tax planning strategies.

Mary earned her Juris Doctorate at J Reuben Clark College of Law at Brigham Young University and her Masters of Taxation at Weber State University.

Outside the office, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband and son, and two Yorkies. Mary also enjoys painting, hiking, and watching movies.

Bethann Finley is a Paralegal for York Howell & Guymon and has worked with David R. York since 2002.  During this time Bethann has assisted David and his clients in preparing complex estate and business planning documents, foundation filings with the IRS, tax returns and adoptions.

Bethann is an active member of the Huntsman Hometown Heroes, which raises money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation by running marathons, half marathons and century bike rides.  Additionally, she is an avid fan of the Utah Jazz, loves to explore local restaurants, and loves art galleries.  Bethann also has two Boxers named Junior and Lola.

Erica Anderson has worked with Andrew L. Howell since 2008 and has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in Social Work.  Erica has assisted Andrew in preparing estate and business planning documents for clients located throughout the nation.  Erica also assists Andrew with probate filings, as well as the preparation of complex trusts and gifting documents related to estate and family planning.

When not in the office, Erica enjoys spending time with her husband, Shade, and their children, Cedar and Olivia. She and her family try to spend as much time as possible hiking, backpacking and camping in the beautiful Wasatch mountains and desert of southern Utah with their dog, Jambi.

Giulia joined York Howell & Guymon in July of 2013, originally starting as a Scanner. Since then, she has taken on multiple positions at the firm, including Runner and Receptionist, and is now working in the accounting department. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Society & Policy at the University of Utah and will be graduating this year.

Giulia loves nothing more than to devote quality time to her friends and family. She enjoys hiking, playing her ukulele, cheering on the Utah Utes, and exploring the best restaurants in town with her best friends. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and is hoping to soon add American Sign Language to the list.

Aubrey began working for Andrew Howell in the Summer of 2014 as his Administrative Assistant, and now works as his paralegal, assisting with estate planning and complex business structuring for Andrew’s clients across the country. Prior to coming to York Howell & Guymon, she worked in the medical field for 15 years. Her nurturing nature is helpful with our clients and her calm demeanor during times of stress is helpful to her team. Her majors at The University of Utah were Human Development & Family Studies and Psychology, after a period of majoring in Biology and minoring in French.

Aubrey enjoys international travel, reading, Sudoku puzzles, making other people laugh, hiking, camping, rock-climbing, river-rafting, visiting museums, art galleries, attending theatrical events such as plays, musicals, orchestra and dance performances. She hopes to take up cycling and hang-gliding someday. When she is not otherwise occupied, she enjoys continuing her learning and gaining knowledge in the sciences, history, other cultures, religions, societies, languages, and has studied French, Spanish and Dutch in the past, though has not attained fluency.

Krystal joined York Howell & Guymon as an Office Administrator in 2015 shortly after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Utah in Sociology. She now works as Senior Legal Assistant to Andrew Howell, working with his Paralegals to assist with estate planning and business structuring.

Krystal enjoys spending her spare moments at home with her husband Dustin and children, Dexter and Vera. They enjoy doing activities together like hiking, going to the movies, bowling and bike riding.

Emma is the Assistant and daughter of David York and has worked at York Howell & Guymon for the last four years, originally starting in the Accounting department. Emma is currently a student at the University of Utah finishing up a degree in Communication Studies and will graduate later this year. She plans to build on the experience of working at our firm by going on to continue her education after graduation in order to become a Paralegal.

When she is not working or in school Emma enjoys hiking, hanging out with her friends, and yoga. She also enjoys cheering on the Utes every football season with her family.

Dallin Perry joined York Howell & Guymon as a Paralegal in 2015.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from Utah Valley University.  Dallin has experience in family law and currently assists one of the Partners, Stephen J. Mayfield, in areas such as Corporate and Tax law, Adult Guardianship, Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Administration.

Laurie Carlyle, a native of sunny Palm Springs, California, moved to the Salt Lake Valley in 2015 in order to live closer to her grown children.

Laurie is a graduate of Brigham Young University and has an extensive background in the hospitality industry which has prepared her for her role at York Howell & Guymon as Firm Administrator.  She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm’s new office including front reception, scheduling, facilities, IT coordination, special events, inventory and a myriad of special projects which included the implementation of design in YHG’s new office building in South Jordan which was just completed. She is considered the office mom and likes to think of herself as “the cruise director.”

In her spare time, her passions include interior design, walking her naughty yorkie, teaching herself crochet, digital scrapbooking, and traveling to far off places as much as possible. She is also very excited about her sweet new granddaughter.

Nori is a paralegal here at York Howell & Guymon and has been assisting Eric Whiting since February 2016. She graduated from Salt Lake Community College in Paralegal Studies and has taken additional classes at the University of Utah as well. She has previously worked as a paralegal doing civil litigation before coming to YH&G.  While working with Eric she has been assisting on matters such as Estate Planning, Probate, Adult Guardianship & Business Planning.

Nicole has been with York Howell & Guymon since June 2016 as a member of Andrew Howell’s team. She is one of his legal assistants, assists with preparing for upcoming meetings, and is the primary contact for scheduling an appointment on his calendar.

Andrea Chacin-Rivera joined York Howell and Guymon in 2016. She works as the Legal Assistant to Christopher A. Jones and Daniel C. Dansie. During her time with the Firm, Andrea has assisted in corporate matters, real estate disputes, and civil litigation.
Andrea is a current student at Salt Lake Community College and is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. Andrea is also currently serving as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves and fulfills her military duties at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah.

Ashley Tedesco joined York Howell & Guymon in April 2016 as a part-time administrative assistant/runner until May 2018 when she graduated from the University of Utah with her Bachelors in Sociology and Criminology. In addition to schoolwork, she completed an internship with the Salt Lake City Police Department and was captain of the University of Utah Women’s Club Soccer Team. Once graduated, she backpacked throughout France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Netherlands, and the U.K for a month.

In September 2018, she returned as a full-time legal assistant under seven of our attorneys who specialize in both real estate law and litigation matters. She has enjoyed drafting complaints in addition to learning the essentials of litigation proceedings. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, walking her dog, going on bike rides, camping with friends, and travelling to places where she can scuba dive.

Alysha Thorpe joined York Howell & Guymon in 2017. She is a Legal Assistant to Rylee T. McDermott, and assists him on matters such as estate planning, probate, guardianship, and business planning. She has prior experience as a legal assistant in litigation, workers’ compensation, and employment law.

In her spare time, Alysha enjoys prepping delicious meals for her family, spending time with the family dog and cat, tending to her garden, and exploring the mountains of Utah. She is passionate about local, sustainable food and is a regular at farmer’s markets.

Camille began working at YH&G in March of 2017 performing the pivotal role of front desk receptionist and has recently been promoted to the accounting team. Having worked in the hospitality business as a restaurant manager for nearly 20 years, Camille possesses the ability to operate with grace under fire, and has brought with her the firm belief that strong customer and employee relations are paramount to any successful business. Outside the office, Camille is an avid runner and cyclist, having competed in several racing events including marathons, half marathons, and triathlons, often placing in her age group. She enjoys hiking and camping in the beautiful mountains of Utah, where she was born and raised, and is a general lover of the outdoors. Above all, she loves spending quality time with her family and friends, and tirelessly chasing after her spirited 2 year old son, Calder.

Ciara Bedke joined our firm in August of 2017. She is a Paralegal for four of our attorneys and handles business law, real estate law and litigation. She graduated from Utah Valley University with an ABA approved Bachelors in Legal Studies and interned with our firm before joining full time. Ciara is currently working to become a nationally Certified Paralegal through NALA and plans to become a Licensed Paralegal Practitioner in Utah. She is passionate about her work and strives to maintain positive client relations.

Tina Lovejoy joined York Howell & Guymon in 2017 as the Director of Entrusted Planning. She leads clients in In-Office Sessions, Family Retreats, and Workshops to discover their Core Values, then helps them write their Motto and Mission Statement which form the foundation of their estate plan.

Tina draws from her background in opera and freelance writing to assist clients with discovering the themes of their planning. She has sung with Utah Festival Opera, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, and Opera Theatre of the Rockies, among others. She was a vocal scholarship student at Boston University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and trained with Operafestival di Roma in Rome, Italy. Prior to working at York Howell & Guymon, Tina was a consultant and technical writer for businesses interested in building their marketing campaigns.

Outside of the office, Tina enjoys hiking, skiing, writing, playing the piano, attending the symphony and the opera, and reading every book about psychology and spiritual development that she can get her hands on.

Brooke Mitchell joined York Howell & Guymon in August 2018 as an Administrative Assistant/Runner, and she is always up and about doing miscellaneous jobs. Carolyn joined our firm as a Legal Assistant to Andrew Howell and Spencer Witt in 2019. Prior to work at York Howell & Guymon, she worked as a Paralegal in the fields of Worker’s Compensation and Employment Law for over six years. She studied at the University of Utah, majoring in English Literature and Art History, before moving to and graduating from Broadview University with an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies.

When away from the office, Carolyn enjoys spending as much time as possible with her husband, Jake, and her friends and family. She also co-hosts a Salt Lake City-based podcast all about what’s new and exciting in the nerdy world of movies and TV. Some of her other hobbies include seeing movies, going to concerts, traveling to new places and embarking on new adventures with her husband. She is in her most natural habitat with her nose buried in a book or when creating and enjoys painting, photography, and writing poetry.

Eric joined the team at York Howell & Guymon in May 2019. He is a graduate of Asbury College and has 27 years of experience in accounting and taxes. Eric has focused much of his career in the area of nonprofit accounting and leadership. He believes that his strength is in using his accounting skills to help others achieve success. This will guide him as he supports the staff at York Howell & Guymon by maintaining the firm’s accounting records and providing financial reporting to the partners.

Eric moved to Salt Lake City in 2003 from Troy, Michigan. He enjoys the beautiful outdoors, hiking, camping, spending time with his family and is always up for the challenge of a good board game or cards. Eric and his wife enjoy traveling both around the United States and internationally. He has three children and one grandchild. Eric has a son studying at the University of Utah and a daughter studying at Westminster College.

Karen began working in the legal field in 1976 as a legal secretary. She graduated with honors in the second Westminster Paralegal Certification Program in 1983 and has continued her employment as a paralegal to date. Karen is very experienced in estate planning, probate, trust administration as well as liquor licensing.

Her long association with the compliance division of the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control offers clients valuable assistance in obtaining liquor licenses from start to finish – including the preparation and approval of applications by the UDABC staff and appearing before the Commissioners for the issuance of licenses. Clients in this area of practice includes representation of Utah’s major athletic facilities, national hotel and restaurant chains, and many of the State’s bars and restaurants.

Twenty years of volunteer service with the Girl Scouts of Utah, chairing the Fund Development Committee and various annual fundraising events, highlight the community involvement of Karen and her husband, Tom.

Karen’s hobbies include spending time with Tom on the tennis court or chasing a dimpled white ball around a golf course, where Karen also occasionally competes in UGA sanctioned tournaments.

Emily, our receptionist, is currently working on her undergraduate degree from Southern Utah University, studying management. She found a love of traveling after living abroad for five months teaching English to children in Lithuania, but newly married, she appreciates spending time relaxing at home too. She also enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling with her new husband. She is excited for her future at York Howell and Guymon.
